1Q40.40 Angular Momentum Train

A circular track on a rotating platform and a train have the same mass. The train and track move in opposite directions.

 

A bicycle wheel is held horizontally in a sturdy table stand. The wheel is free to spin about its axis. A model train track is attached to the outer rim of the wheel, visually forming a larger outer wheel. A model train rests on the track. Wires and controls to run the train appear in the background.
