Touch the end of a small glass surface with a small glass tube and the water is drawn into the tube.

Note: For a better effect, wet the inside of the tube first.

A glass tube whose tip is drawn into a fine capillary tube is posed over a pool of colored water resting on a glass plate. The tip of the tube's capillary end barely touches the domed surface of the tiny pool.
