2A10.32 Pull on the Ring

Pull ring away from surface with spring.

Note: A Cenco apparatus exists for the purpose of this demo. The demo can also be built from off-the-shelf parts.

A long spring hangs from a table stand, positioned over a glass plate set on a lab jack. A tiny, exceptionally thin wire ring is suspended from the wire ring, which hovers just over the glass plate. A jar of water and a syringe appear in the foreground.

Off-the-shelf apparatus

A long spring hangs from an adjustable-height stand. A small dish of water rests on a circular platform just below the spring. An extremely thin wire ring hangs from a short, light rod that dangles from the bottom of the spring. The ring is just dipping into the water in this photo.

Cenco apparatus

In this close-up photo of the Cenco apparatus, water rises around the thin ring, which has been pulled up to a point just barely higher than the surface of the water.
