Surface tension pulls the strands of fur of a small fluffy cat together when wet.

 

Before bath:

A black-and-white shorthair cat sits on a bath towel, gazing with apparent apprehension at something off camera.

After bath:

A thoroughly wet black-and-white cat with the classically slicked-down fur of wet cats everywhere gazes with large yellow eyes toward the camera.

An undergraduate holds an exceptionally wet black-and-white cat up for the camera.
