2A10.15 Submerged Float

2A10.15 Submerged Float

Surface tension holds a brass ring on a float beneath the water.

A thin wire ring is supported by three thin wires which unite at a central point beneath the ring. A light cork float is fastened to the wire junction. The apparatus is floating in a glass of water. The thin wire ring stretches above the rim of the glass while the float seems to bob just below the surface of the water.

The thin wire ring has been submerged. The float bobs in the middle of the water. The wire ring bumps against the surface of the water but is apparently unable to rise through the surface.
