1Q40.12 Rotating Platform and Dumbbells

A student stands straddling the saddle with the dumbbells held close to his or her chest and is spun. The student is then directed to hold the dumbbells out at arm’s length, which causes them to spin considerably slower. When they bring the weights back in, they speed up again.

[Note: Make sure the student starts with the weights close to their chest, not out at arms length]

A sturdy rotating stool with a flat wooden 'saddle' appears in this photo. The flat, hourglass-shaped 'saddle' is meant to be clasped between the legs, helping the demonstrator to balance as the stool spins. Two dumbbells are propped on the stool's bottom platform.
