1K20.10 Friction Blocks

Attach a block to a spring scale with a string. Record the minimum force needed to pull the block with a constant velocity when the string is parallel to the table and then at different angles.

A block covered in sandpaper rests on a scrap plank. The block's largest surface area is face-down on the plank. Two 1-kg masses stand on top of the block. A short string is tied to a hook screwed into the front of the block. A spring scale is hooked to the other end of the string. The scale is held nearly horizontally and reads 16 N.
