A spool can be made to move in different directions by pulling at different angles on the ribbon attached to the hub.

A giant spool is made from a tube and two Plexiglass discs, each one fastened to one end of the tube to make the ends of the spool. A wide multicolor ribbon has been wound on to the spool.
