1J30.60 Sailing Upwind

Use a box fan to blow at an air track glider with a sail.

A cart glides smoothly on a flat track. The track is set at a 45 degree angle with respect to a nearby box fan, such that the left end of the track is furthest from the fan, the right end is nearest. Several short rods parallel to the track have been decked with short ribbons. The ribbons' flutter indicates the direction of motion of the wind. The cart has a short rod 'mainmast' holding a single sail spread behind the mainmast. It looks like the sail is set at the classic 45 degree angle for sailing into the wind, The cart runs from left to right along the track when the fan is on, demonstrating sailing against the wind.
