1J30.26 Rope and Three Weights

Suspend a rope over two pulleys with masses on the ends and hang another mass from the center. Measure the deflection.

Two vertical rods are set on the right and left side of a table. A face-on pulley is set at the top of each rod. A bright magenta string runs from a hooked mass hanging on the left side, over the left pulley, across the gap, and down to a hooked mass hanging on the right. A third hooked mass hangs from the center of the string as it crosses the gap. Each mass is 1 kg. A classroom-scale protractor and high-contrast ruler sit on the table.
