1G20.47 Dropping Pendulum

Suspend a pendulum from a stick. Drop the stick when the pendulum is at an extreme and the stick and pendulum will fall straight down.

A tall man (Vacek) stands on top of a tall table holding a rigid pendulum composed of a thin aluminum rod and a tennis ball bob. A short horizontal rod extends from the pendulum's pivot point. This rod is held by the demonstrator. The pendulum swings freely face-on to the camera and has been photographed nearly at the extreme of its arc.
