Use a smooth-top table and seamless table cloth that won’t catch dishware. Heavy dishware is necessary to provide adequate inertia. Pull table cloth straight down over the edge, or chop down at cloth while holding onto end (see image).

A smooth-topped table is set for dinner, with a large plate, a bowl set on top of the plate, a mug, silverware, and a vase of flowers. The silverware is placed all on one side of the plate, unlike American custom. All the dinnerware rests on a fetching tablecloth featuring various sea creatures on a blue background. A tall man in glasses holds the tablecloth up and looks ready to pull with a flourish.
