1F20.10 Inertia Ball

Pull on a string attached to the bottom of a heavy ball that is suspended by an identical string until one of the strings breaks. Pulling slowly will result in the top string breaking. Yanking on it will cause the bottom string to break.

A blue bowling ball is suspended by a thin string from a sturdy, tall floor stand. Another, similar string hangs from the bottom of the bowling ball. The other end of the bottom string is tied to the middle of a thick wooden dowel to create a comfortable hand grip. At the top, a longer piece of plastic cable is passed through the top eyehook and tied to the upper support. This long piece of cable serves as a 'safety', in case of unexpected breakage.
