1D52.31 Inertial Pressure Gradient

A bubble in a tube goes to the center when whirled in a horizontal circle.

A hand drill is mounted to a platform so that the drill can be operated hands-free. Apparatus can be mounted and spun from the top. In this case, a long horizontal brass bar is mounted so that it will spin horizontally about its center. A transparent section of flexible tubing forms a downward arch which is pinned to the bar at each end. The tubing is nearly full of water, with enough air left to form a good-sized air bubble. The drill is plugged into a Variac.

The drill is use to whirl the tube in a horizontal circle.

The bubble goes to the center.
