1D60.20 Simultaneous Drop

1D60.20 Simultaneous Drop

The setup includes the spring-loaded launching device, a tall stand on which to mount it, one solid ball, one ball with a drilled out core, and two pans on the floor for the balls to hit. Mount the device to the stand, cock the spring, and place the balls. When the device is triggered, it will drop one ball vertically and simultaneously launch a second ball horizontally. Using the cubes instead of balls will prevent loss of apparatus.
A simultaneous drop apparatus is fixed to the top of a tall, single-shaft floor stand. On one side of the apparatus, a small metal cube is loaded on the end of a small spring, about to be fired horizontally. On the other side of the apparatus, a small metal cube sits on the end of a small shaft, waiting to drop vertically. Below the floor stand, two enamel trays are set face-down, positioned so that the cubes hit the trays.

A close-up of the simultaneous drop apparatus. On one side, a metal cube waits for a small spring-loaded shaft to strike it a horizontal blow. On the other side, a small metal cube is suspended over air on the end of a small metal shaft. A lever is set between the two cubes.

Location: B1-4.  For best effect, use inverted metal trays, O2-4, to ‘catch’ the blocks (good sound effect).
