1K20.30 Static vs. Sliding Friction

Set a block with an eye hook (or a cart with the wheels locked) on a regular, smooth surface and connect a spring scale to it with a piece of string. Begin to pull on the scale, gradually increasing the force applied, until the tension overcomes friction and the block moves. For the best results, anticipate when this will occur and try to minimize acceleration at that point.

Slide block on particle board surface for best results.
