1J30.22 Tension in a Spring

Pull on two spring scales connected together to show they will read the same value.

Vertical rods are fixed to the right and left side of a square cart. Two spring scales are strung across the gap between the rods. The left side of the left spring scale is fixed to the left post. The right side of the left spring scale is hooked to the left side of the right spring scale. The right side of the right spring scale is tied to a string that passes over a pulley at the top of the right rod and runs down to two hanging hooked masses hanging off the pulley to the right. The hooked masses appear to be about 1 kg each. The spring scales each mark the same value: about 18 N.
